New investment in Helix's neighborhood

Lilly announces new $4.5 billion site - the Lilly Medicine Foundry

Eli Lilly and Company has announced a $4.5 billion investment in Indiana to build a new drug manufacturing center called the Lilly Medicine Foundry. This new facility will combine research and production in one place, allowing Lilly to develop new ways of making medicines and increase the supply of medicines for clinical trials. The new facility is expected to open in late 2027.

The Lilly Medicine Foundry will be located in the LEAP Research and Innovation District, a growing area in Indiana focused on technology and innovation. Since its launch in 2022, the LEAP district has already attracted $18 billion in investments. The area is quickly becoming a key location for biotechnology and innovation, bringing jobs and new opportunities to Indiana.

Thermo Scientific Glacios 2 Cryo-TEM

Exciting developments have transformed the Glacios! Previously used mainly for screening, the Glacios 2 is now a powerhouse and can tackle both screening and collection on a variety of projects.

The Glacios 2 Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscope from Thermo Fisher Scientific is a 200 kV cryo-TEM that now combines a Falcon 4i Direct Electron Detector, fringe-free imaging, a new enclosure, and Smart EPU Software for the best possible results. It's the most cost-effective choice for single particle applications, routinely achieving sub 3 angstrom (Å) resolution.

A recent Nature Communications article by Victoria Cushing, et.al. demonstrates that utilizing the Glacios 2 is sufficient in obtaining high-resolution structural information of most macromolecular complexes, readily acquiring single particle data rivaling that of 300 kV cryo-TEMs.
